My Education and Background

I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in elementary education.  University honors included a Merit Scholarship and a 2nd place in the Freshman Essay Contest.  Writing has long been a passion.  I have been privileged to have work published in various lit journals and in the anthology Imagination and Place.

Postgraduate coursework has included ESL, literacy, and gifted education.  I am grateful for having had the opportunity to take GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) training through my district and to write a language development unit on “The Market” for inclusion on their resource website (accessible to GLAD trained teachers).  Among the inspirations for that unit were Pike Place Market and the local farmer’s market in the U-District.  I work best when something inspires me… and I believe the same is true of my students, both English language learners and native speakers.
